David Sætre Hveem is a trained jazz bassist, educator and composer from the Norwegian Academy of Music, and works as a composer, arranger, conductor and performer. In the spring of 2022, he completed a master's degree in jazz composition for large ensembles where the focus was on the use of strings in such ensembles, through a concert and recording in November 2021 with a 17-person sinfonietta, as well as a larger work for a 60-person orchestra in March 2022. In addition to this, he has in recent years written several commissioned works for various bands for their participation in the Norwegian National Championships for wind bands (both school bands and amateur bands) and made several full productions with his own music for big bands, most recently a recording with The New Norwegian Big Band in May 2022 titled Det rekomponerte Nye.

He has written arrangements for professional ensembles such as The Norwegian Radio Symphony and The Norwegian Wind Ensemble, and is regularly used as an arranger for several of the country's leading concert bands, big bands and brass bands. He has also composed and arranged works on commission by Oslo Fagottkor, Vålerenga Mannskor and Elvebyen Messingkvartett, as well as a number of other ensembles of various sizes.

As a conductor, he works primarily with big bands and concert bands, often in performances of his own compositions or arrangements. In recent years, he has conducted or led Orkester Innlandet, Bjørvika Business Band, Birkelunden Big Band, Kolbu Janitsjar, OJKOS, Drammen Storband, Østre Toten Storband, Oppsal Janitsjar, Romsås Janitsjar, Gjøvik Symphony Orchestra and Hæljeswingen Big Band, to name a few. In addition, he served as conductor at the above-mentioned master concerts, and has on several occasions conducted his own music with The Norwegian Academy of Music Big band, The New Norwegian Big Band and Hæljeswingen Big Band.

As a performer on bass and various woodwind instruments, he has in recent years played with a number of big bands, small bands and concert bands, including the Big Band at The Norwegian Academy of Music, Christiania Wind Ensemble and Kolbu Janitsjar. He is also a lecturer in composition and arranging at the music departments at Askim and Hadeland upper secondary schools, and has taught similar subjects (as well as instrumental lessons, music history and more) at Rud upper secondary school and Innlandet University College, as well as holding courses, seminars and lectures for various organizations such as the Norwegian Marching Band Association and the Norwegian Girls' Choir.
