arranger
As an arranger, I have written hundreds of arrangements for bands, choirs and big bands, and I am regularly used as an arranger for several of the country's leading wind bands, big bands and brass bands.
I have also written for professional ensembles such as The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Arctic Philharmonic, Orkester Innlandet and The Norwegian Wind Ensemble, and for concerts with soloists such as Maria Haukaas Mittet, Alexander Rybak, Elg, Narum, INGEBORG, Lisa Stokke, Alexandra Rotan, Trine Rein, Reidun Sæther, Knut Anders Sørum, Leif Anders Wentzel, Eldar Vågan, Tuva Syvertsen, Bjørn Tomren, and others.
Below you can see and hear some of the arrangements I have written, for both small and large ensembles. In addition to this, I have an archive full of finished arrangements, and am more than happy to write new ones on request; just get in touch.
se deg aldri tilbake
For The Norwegian Radio Orchestra's tribute to Lillebjørn Nilsen, I arranged two songs for the orchestra together with soloist Tuva Syvertsen. Click on the image to the left to hear the arrangement in NRK's online player. Here you can also hear my arrangement of the song Jørgens blues, from the same project.
December will be magic Again
On several occasions I have arranged for the Oslo Fagottkor Christmas show, and in 2019 I made an arrangement of Kate Bush's beautiful December Will Be Magic Again. The arrangement had to be adapted to the song's function in the show, and new choreography was created for the music.
In addition to the male choir with a soloist, the choir has a small orchestra at its Christmas shows, which is also in action here.
Jul, jul, strålande jul
One of my personal Christmas favorites is Jul, jul, strålande jul by Edvard Evers with music by Gustaf Nordqvist. The arrangement on the left was commissioned by Jaren Hornmusikkforening and soloist Gunda-Marie Bruce, both an ensemble and singer I have worked with on several occasions.
In this arrangement, I have tried to preserve the core of both the melody and lyrics, but given it more time and space to breathe than the way this song is traditionally performed.
Myrsnipa
This arrangement is one of several I have written that have been published by Norsk Noteservice, which has therefore also been recorded by the Norwegian Navy Band. Published for both Wind band and brass band.
Although the arrangement is written for a vocal soloist, it also works well with a solo instrument instead, and you can also choose whether or not to include a guitar to keep it even more true to the original recording.
Epilogue
Epilogue is a collection of themes from the movie La La Land, with music composed by Justin Hurwitz, and is performed in the movie during the closing credits. The arrangement is relatively faithful to the original, with the exception of some key changes and adaptations - and of course the fact that it was written for brass band.
The piece was recorded by Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag, and the sheet music can be purchased here.
Jeg reiser alene
In the spring of 2020, I arranged some songs for string quartet and vocal soloist for a concert at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and then made a simple recording you can hear here. The song is written by Ole Paus, and in the arrangement I have tried to give the beautiful text a lot of attention, as well as using the various nuances in the different possibilities of the string quartet.
mitt kongerike
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vålerenga Mannskor the choir commissioned a number of new arrangements of music with texts associated with Vålerenga. One of these was the poem Mitt kongerike by Wilhelm Holteberg-Hansen, with melody by Are Volmert Sørensen.
The arrangement is structured with some aleatoric parts, and allows the choir to make use of the concert venue with some variations in positioning for the choir.
Attitunes Vokalgruppe
For several years I have collaborated extensively with the vocal group Attitunes,
who specialize in the style of iconic 40s and 50s vocal groups.
Below are some examples of arrangements I have written especially for them.
In 2022, we did a tribute to The Monn Keys at Chat Noir, with my orchestral arrangements for a 12-piece orchestra where I also served as musical director
In 2020 I arranged a full program with the music of Cole Porter for Attitunes and big band
I have written around 40 arrangements for a cappella trio/quartet with or without rhythm section, which Attitunes regularly performs in various large and small contexts
